Mikel Arteta has been given permission to spend more than £200 million this summer to improve a team that was unable to compete in the Premier League title chase.
On Sunday, Arsenal had a slim chance of passing Manchester City, but those chances were effectively finished after the champions cruised to a victory at Everton and the Gunners were destroyed by Brighton at home.
The optimistic sunshine that accompanied the Gunners' ascent to the top has given way to the somber realization that Arteta's young team still falls far short of what it will take to defeat Pep Guardiola's relentless winning machine throughout a 38-game season.
According to The Times, Arsenal's board will support their manager in the summer transfer window and has approved moves for two key targets, Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. Reports suggest Arsenal is preparing an offer for Rice, while still pursuing Caicedo.
The club will also look to strengthen their defense, midfield, and forward positions. To fund these moves, Arsenal hopes to raise about £100 million from player sales, including Granit Xhaka and Emile Smith Rowe. Other players who have been out on loan, such as Nicolas Pepe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, will also be made available for transfer.
