Kane has now scored 27 goals this Premier League season, matching Mohamed Salah's record for most goals in a single campaign. Kane's penalty in Spurs' 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa took him level with Salah's record, though Kane has two matches remaining to break the record outright. Jacob Ramsey opened the scoring for Villa after just eight minutes before Douglas Luiz scored a free kick. Kane missed a good chance of his own in the second half before Kulusevski played Kane through on goal late on and the Spurs striker was fouled by Martinez in the box, earning a penalty which Kane converted to make it 27 goals for the season.
After a long wait period, Kane took his customary deep breaths and sent Martinez - who is so effective at stopping penalties - the wrong way, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.
Ultimately, the goal proved to be little more than a consolation for Spurs, who were outplayed for much of the contest, underscoring their season and the extent to which Kane has carried the team.
Still, it represents yet another milestone for the England captain, who has now scored in 24 different Premier League matches this season - matching the tally Salah achieved in the 2017-18 season. Though Manchester City's Erling Haaland leads the scoring charts with 35 goals, the Norwegian has only found the net in 22 matches so far - two fewer than Kane.
He does, of course, still have four matches remaining to either match or surpass Kane and Salah's total, or perhaps even exceed the pair.
Kane, meanwhile, will fancy his chances of claiming the outright record with Tottenham still having two matches remaining this season against Brentford at home and Leeds United away.
His latest strike also takes him to 210 Premier League goals, leaving him 50 shy of Alan Shearer's all-time record - a milestone he could reach over the next two seasons if he maintains his current scoring form.
