Granit Xhaka, an Arsenal midfielder, expressed interest in going back to Germany in the summer with his teammates.
For almost £34 million, the Swiss midfielder transferred from Borussia Monchengladbach to Arsenal in 2016. In red and white, Xhaka experienced ups and downs and twice nearly went back to Germany.
After Arteta's appointment, Xhaka was eager to join Hertha Berlin. The Spaniard, though, persuaded him to remain at Emirates.
Xhaka has performed admirably for Arsenal this year. However, he only has 14 months left on his contract, and there are rumors that he would like to go back to Germany.
In the summer, Bayern Leverkusen is interested in signing Xhaka. An "aggressive leader" is what manager Xavi Alonso wants to bring into his midfield.
GOAL reports that in the meantime, he told his teammates that he wanted to come back to the Bundesliga.
But rather than paying a price for him this summer, the Bundesliga club will wait until 2024 to take him on a free transfer.
Because of Xhaka's leadership and versatility in the middle of the field, Arteta wishes to keep him. Declan Rice would have less playing time at the Emirates if Arsenal were to sign the West Ham star in the summer.
However, the Gunners value him closer to £70m and are unwilling to pay the high asking price of £120m. Additionally, Arsenal has rekindled its interest in Moises Caicedo of Brighton, and this time, the Seagulls won't get in the way.
Xhaka might be playing in his final three games for North London as Arteta already hopes to add new players to his midfield.
